Privacy Policy
Shnipper is operated by Ben There Media, LLC (“Shnipper”, “we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and who else touches it.
Two very different kinds of people
Shnipper is used at events. That means two groups appear in this policy and they are not treated the same way:
- Operators — the businesses and individuals who buy Shnipper and run it at an event. We hold an account relationship with you, and for your account data we are the controller.
- Guests — the people who appear in footage an operator records. Guests have no account with us and we have no relationship with them. For that footage the operator is the controller and Shnipper acts as a processor, handling it only as the operator instructs.
This matters in practice: if you are a guest and want your footage removed or want to know why you were filmed, the operator running the event is who can answer. We will help them act on your request, but we cannot decide it for them. If you do not know who that is, contact us and we will route it.
What we collect
From operators
- Email address, collected by Stripe at checkout and used to send your license key and service messages.
- Billing identifiers — a Stripe customer id and subscription id. We never see or store your card details; those go directly to Stripe.
- Your license key, and a machine fingerprint for each computer you activate. The fingerprint is a one-way SHA-256 hash of an operating-system machine identifier — the raw identifier never leaves your computer and the hash cannot be reversed back into it. It exists to enforce your seat count, nothing else.
- Activation timestamps — when a machine was bound and last seen, used for seat management and support.
- Event branding you upload — names, logos, and colours.
From guests
- The video footage itself, which necessarily includes the image, likeness, and any audio of the people in it.
- Nothing else. We do not collect guest names, email addresses, or phone numbers, because clips are delivered by an on-screen link or QR code rather than sent to a contact detail. There is no guest mailing list, because there is no way for us to build one.
From the website
This marketing site runs no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs.
How long we keep it
Event footage is automatically and permanently deleted 30 days after upload. This is enforced by a storage lifecycle rule, not by anyone remembering to run a cleanup — it happens whether or not anyone asks.
Operators: treat Shnipper as delivery, not as an archive. If you or your client need a clip for longer than 30 days, download and store it yourself. We cannot recover footage after deletion.
Operator account records — your email, license, and billing identifiers — are kept while your account is active and afterwards only as long as needed for support, tax, and accounting obligations.
Who can see a clip, and for how long
Clips are protected by a passkey embedded in the link or QR code the guest receives. Anyone holding that link and passkey can view and download the clip — there is no per-person login, because a guest at an event cannot reasonably be asked to create an account. Treat the link as the credential.
The link does not expire on its own. It keeps working until the footage is deleted at 30 days — so a QR code photographed at an event, or a link forwarded to someone else, stays usable for that whole window. If a clip needs to stop being reachable sooner, ask the operator who recorded it to have it removed.
Who else processes data for us
- Google Cloud — hosting, database, and video storage. Storage is located in the United States.
- Stripe — payment processing and billing records.
- Resend — delivery of transactional email such as license keys.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or any purpose unrelated to running the service.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to some processing. Write to support@shnipper.com and we will respond.
For footage, please read the controller/processor split above first — a guest request about a specific clip has to be directed to, or authorised by, the operator who recorded it.
Children
Shnipper is sold to businesses and is not directed at children. Operators who record minors are responsible for obtaining consent from a parent or guardian where the law requires it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our infrastructure providers, access to production systems is restricted, and license entitlements are cryptographically signed. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Material changes affecting operators will also be sent by email.
